Over the years, YouTube has become the pad for the careers of many, from David Dobrik to Liza Koshy, but it has also helped flesh out the interests of others. Case in point: Riverdale star Lili Reinhart.
It’s no secret that since its creation in 2005, YouTube has allowed for different communities to come together and create incredibly powerful, useful, and plain fun content. Perhaps one of the biggest communities on YouTube is the beauty one, where gurus like James Charles and Jackie Aina are leading the charge. And, well, the beauty gurus’ influence certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed by Lili, who recently revealed they helped her with her own makeup routine.
In a new interview with Elite Daily, Lili revealed that her entire makeup routine has been molded by the beauty community on YouTube and even attributed her initial infatuation with makeup, specifically centered around special effects makeup, to the platform.
“I moved across the country when I was 16 and ended up finishing my high school online, so…after I was done with my schoolwork and just trying to fill my time, I started watching YouTube tutorials,” Lili told the publication. Among Lili’s favorite YouTubers to watch were Michelle Phan and NikkieTutorials.
“I remember my first makeup bag full of my first drugstore makeup. I used one of those dirty, white sponges that everyone always had in their makeup bag and would use to reapply their foundation over and over again,” Lili then also added.
Lili then recalled the many makeup looks she would begin to post on Instagram in 2014 and 2015, around the time she got deep within the YouTube community and was regularly watching tutorials on how to master special looks.
All of that time watching YouTube makeup tutorials clearly paid off as Lili was recently made the new face of CoverGirl’s Clean Fresh Collection. So let Lili’s case be a lesson for us all — if you blend your eyeshadow hard enough, you too can be successful.
