Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson recently went on a tattoo date together and left the parlor with a bunch of new ink — including some matching ones.
The pair had a couple’s session with tattoo artist Nico Bassill, who has worked with both of them in the past, in his private tattoo studio Among The Willows in Los Angeles. And it looks like the session lasted a few hours because the couple got more than a few designs inked.
For her first tattoo of the session, Miley chose a literal work of art: a nude drawing of a woman by the artist Henri Matisse. She then posted her new ink to Instagram, captioning the photo with a quote from the song “Dance Me to the End of Love” by Leonard Cohen.
Nico followed up her post with a post of his own, offering a nod to Matisse in the form of a quote. “‘An artist must never be a prisoner. Prisoner? An artist should never be a prisoner of himself, prisoner of style, prisoner of reputation, prisoner of success, etc.’,” the artist wrote.”
Cody’s tattoo journey ended with something a little more simplistic. The Australian singer/actor opted for the head of a trident, a reference to his upcoming book, Prince Neptune, set to be released in April. The same trident appears on the book’s cover (which Cody teased on Instagram in early 2020) and is his current profile picture. Can’t blame him for being consistent!
Apparently, Miley is also a big fan of this trident because she followed up her first tattoo with an outline of that same trident on the inside of her left wrist. Nico later posted a photo of the couple’s matching tridents together on his Instagram, adding a quote from Cody’s upcoming book of poetry and prose. And it has us wondering, is there more to these tridents? I guess we’ll find out soon!
