Rihanna has done many things, from creating diverse billion-dollar beauty powerhouse Fenty Beauty to redefining the runway with her lingerie company Savage Fenty. But the one thing she hasn’t done? Grace the cover of a magazine in a durag, that is until her May British Vogue cover released yesterday. It’s also the first time in history a durag has graced the cover of the magazine. On the cover, shot by Steven Klein and styled by Edward Enninful, she wears a Stephen Jones Millery on not one, but two special covers. “This potent symbol of Black life – of self-preservation, resistance + authenticity has an imp. place in pop culture, it is rarely viewed through the prism of high fashion. Yet here we have the most aspirational + beautiful durag,” says Enninful of the cover.
