Protesters across the country, calling for justice for the police killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and other anti-Black police killings, have been met by police in riot gear, using extreme and dangerous crowd controlling methods like tear gas and rubber bullets. These “non lethal” bullets have been found to“not be considered a safe method of crowd control,” in research dating back to at least 2002.

The misconception that the name “rubber bullet” suggests is that these bullets are made from rubber. However, this is not always the case.
